<\/p>\nSamajwadi Party (SP) is almost on the verge of split. It looks like the Son will win the race. Only 30 days\u2019 time is left for the elections in UP.<\/p>\n
While the son is in control of the situation, the father is unable to step down and make up his mind.<\/p>\n
Both factions are claiming to be the real face of the SP and have staked claim for the party\u2019s poll symbol, the bicycle. The Election Commission has asked both factions to prove their strength by submitting signed affidavits from MLAs and members of the legislative council.<\/p>\n
Ramgopal Yadav, who has backed Akhilesh in the power struggle, said they have collected the signatures of 212 of the 229 MLAs, 56 of the 68 MLCs, 15 of the 24 MPs and a majority of the 5,000 delegates.<\/p>\n

Elections to the 403-member assembly will be held in seven phases beginning February 11 and the SP is expected to face a tough fight from the BJP, Bahujan Samaj Party.<\/p>\n
More than 40 hours of discussions between the groups did not break the ice. Senior minister Azam Khan and two of Mulayam\u2019s apolitical brothers — Abhayram and Rajpal \u2013 have tried to play peace-makers but without any success.<\/p>\n
Akhilesh camp showed no indication of conceding any ground despite feelers that Shivpal will quit as state president while Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh will give up SP membership.<\/p>\n
\u201cOutsiders don\u2019t hurt, our own hurt us. When we fight with our own, we end up in dust,\u201d Amar Singh was quoted as saying.<\/p>\n
chief minister Akhilesh was only four years of age since when Shivpal Yadav fostered him, took care of his education. I too played a role in his personal life,\u201d Singh added, referring to Akhilesh\u2019s marriage with Dimple, a Lok Sabha member.<\/p>\n

But when it comes to politics power matters, there are instances where kings killed their fathers and relatives. Here Akhilesh is not talking against his father, but wants to remain in power.<\/p>\n
