{"id":44274,"date":"2016-12-16T14:20:23","date_gmt":"2016-12-16T14:20:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/greattelangaana.com\/english\/?p=44274"},"modified":"2016-12-16T14:20:23","modified_gmt":"2016-12-16T14:20:23","slug":"5-judges-decide-notes-ban-legality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greattelangaana.com\/english\/5-judges-decide-notes-ban-legality\/","title":{"rendered":"5 Judges to decide on Notes ban legality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Five senior most judges will decide whether the notes ban is legal and whether it is a violation of fundamental rights, the Supreme Court said today.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The court is hearing petitions challenging the ban on 500 and 1,000 rupee notes last month, which has left millions facing a cash crunch and scrambling to banks and ATMs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-44276\" src=\"https:\/\/greattelangaana.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/1000-rupee-note_650x400_51478687347.jpg\" alt=\"5 Judges to decide on Notes ban legality \" width=\"650\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Whether the court can interfere in economic policy will also be debated by the five-judge constitution bench.Extending the use of old notes at select places like hospitals and petrol pumps for a few more days will, however, be decided by the government, the court said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">From today, old 500-rupee notes cannot be used anywhere and can only be deposited in banks. The government refused to extend the exemptions it had announced to ease the cash crunch.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-44277\" src=\"https:\/\/greattelangaana.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/atm-queue-farmers-queue-pti_650x400_41481603388.jpg\" alt=\"5 Judges to decide on Notes ban legality \" width=\"650\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Representing one of the petitioners, senior lawyer Kapil Sibal argued that some order had to be passed to extend the use of the banned notes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The court also said that it is up to the government to review the withdrawal limit of Rs. 24,000 per week from banks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Five senior most judges will decide whether the notes ban is legal and whether it is a violation of fundamental rights, the Supreme Court said today.
