{"id":25875,"date":"2016-10-18T11:53:23","date_gmt":"2016-10-18T11:53:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/greattelangaana.com\/english\/?p=25875"},"modified":"2016-10-18T11:53:23","modified_gmt":"2016-10-18T11:53:23","slug":"saina-nehwal-appointed-member-ioc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greattelangaana.com\/english\/saina-nehwal-appointed-member-ioc\/","title":{"rendered":"Saina Nehwal appointed member of IOC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a rare honour for an Indian sportsperson brought up in Telangana and Hyderabad , star shuttler Saina Nehwal has been appointed as a member of the International Olympic Committee\u2019s (IOC) Athletes\u2019 Commission.Saina received a letter to the effect from the IOC President Thomas Bach on Monday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFollowing your candidature for the elections of the IOC Athletes\u2019 Commission during the Olympic Games Rio 2016, it is with great pleasure to appoint you in consultation with the Chair, as Member of the Athletes\u2019 Commission,\u201d the letter said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Athletes\u2019 Commission is chaired by Angela Ruggiero and it comprises nine vice presidents and 10 other members.The next meeting of the Commission is scheduled for November 6.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-25877\" src=\"https:\/\/greattelangaana.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Saina-Nehwal-Image-Facebook.Com_.jpg\" alt=\"Saina-Nehwal-Image-Facebook.Com_\" width=\"497\" height=\"325\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Saina\u2019s appointment to the prestigious panel has come just when she is set to resume practice after recovering from a knee injury. Saina, who sustained an intra\u2014articular injury (inside the joint) to her right knee, had said in an interview last month that she hoped play in tournaments in November if everything went well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Saina\u2019s father Harvir Singh expressed happiness over her appointment to the Olympic panel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI have become very emotional. It is a matter of great privilege for us that they recognised her and to be a part of the IOC. They thought that she could be of some use. She lost (a medal in the Olympics) because of the injury.
