The defamation suit was filed by a Gujarat BJP MLA over Rahul Gandhi\u2019s remarks on the \u2018Modi surname\u2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The MLA from the Surat-West seat had alleged that Rahul Gandhi had defamed the entire Modi community by saying &#8220;How come all the thieves have Modi as the common surname?&#8221; while addressing a poll rally in 2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is reported that Rahul Gandhi replied: He is no guilty while the proceedings were going on.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rahul Gandhi is in Surat court to defend himself in the criminal defamation case over his 2019 remark on the \u2018Modi surname\u2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At an election rally held at Kolar in Karnataka on April 13, 2019, Rahul Gandhi had reportedly asked, &#8220;Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi, Narendra Modi&#8230; how come they all have Modi as the common surname.
