Legendary sprinter Milkha Singh, also known as the \u2018Flying Singh\u2019, died of coronavirus disease (Covid-19). He was 91 years old and was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the PGIMER hospital in Chandigarh.<\/p>\n
soon after the news of Milkha Singh\u2019s demise was announced by his family, tributes started pouring in for the sprinter. Several Bollywood celebrities took to their social media handles to express their grief.<\/p>\n
Five days ago, Milkhas wife Nirmal Kaur a former Volley Ball captain, had lost her battle with the with the virus at the same Mohali hospital where the legendary runner breathed his last.<\/p>\n
Milkha is survived by 14-time international winner and golfer son Jeev Milkha Singh, daughters Mona Singh, Sonia Singh and Aleeza Grover \u2014 and a legacy that is part of India\u2019s sporting lore.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who took to Twitter to express his condolences over Singh\u2019s demise, described Milkha as a \u201ccolossal sportsperson who captured the nation\u2019s imagination\u201d.<\/p>\n
