While Hillary is making waves and set to become the next President of USA , now there is a wish from the present UN chief that a woman must become next chief for the UN. If it happens this will be the first time that a woman will take this post. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says he would personally like to see a woman lead the United Nations for the first time since it was established more than 70 years ago.<\/p>\n
As he nears the end of his second five-year term on Dec. 31, Mr. Ban said that \u201cit\u2019s high time now\u201d for a female secretary-general after eight men at the helm of the world organisation.There are currently 11 candidates vying to succeed Mr. Ban six men and five women.<\/p>\n
But he stressed that the decision is not up to him it\u2019s up to the 15-member Security Council which must recommend a candidate to the 193-member General Assembly for its approval.The U.N. chief was asked about the possibility of a female secretary-general during a trip to California last week.<\/p>\n
Sitting onstage in Los Angeles last Wednesday with U.S. Rep. Ed Royce, a California Republican who chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Mr. Ban stressed that women comprise half the world\u2019s population and should be empowered and \u201cgiven equal opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have many distinguished and eminent women leaders in national governments or other organizations or even business communities, political communities, and cultural and every aspect of our life,\u201d he said a day later in an Associated Press interview. \u201cThere\u2019s no reason why not in the United Nations.\u201dWithout giving any names, he said, there are \u201cmany distinguished, motivated women leaders who can really change this world, who can actively engage with the other leaders of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
