{"id":143694,"date":"2018-05-08T09:06:31","date_gmt":"2018-05-08T03:36:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/greattelangaana.com\/english\/?p=143694"},"modified":"2018-05-08T09:06:31","modified_gmt":"2018-05-08T03:36:31","slug":"1000-year-old-vishnu-temple-found","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greattelangaana.com\/english\/1000-year-old-vishnu-temple-found\/","title":{"rendered":"1000 year old Vishnu temple found"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A rare Vishnu temple with a unique \u2018nava-ratha\u2019 architecture has been excavated at Madhabgaon village in Kaharol Upazila of the northern district of Dinajpur by a team of archaeologists from Jahangirnagar University.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They found a seven-metre-high brick-built structure and a 144-sq-metre solidly built platform, with a 4.48-metre square cell at the centre. The cell represents the \u2018garbhagriha\u2019 (sanctum sanctorium) where the idol was worshipped.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-143695 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/greattelangaana.com\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/tample-660x365.jpg\" alt=\"1000 year old Vishnu temple found\" width=\"660\" height=\"365\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The external surface of the platform has \u2018ratha\u2019 or vertical offset projections at the west, north and south. There are nine \u2018rathas\u2019. That is why the temple is known as a \u2018nava-ratha\u2019 temple, according to \u2018Early Temple Architecture\u2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The team found more artefacts, including a decorated stone image, a good number of broken fragments of stone sculptures, along with pottery, decorated bricks and stone pieces during the ongoing archaeological excavations at the site.
