I never made that statement, check it out.\u201dMr. Duterte blamed the media for distorting his words, saying he did utter \u201cson of a bitch\u201d but it was not directed at Mr. Obama.<\/p>\n<p>Before travelling to Laos for regional summits, Mr. Duterte said <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1662128662\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Monday<\/span><\/span> that Mr. Obama should not question him about the rising death toll in his war on drugs, which has been criticised abroad and by Mr. Duterte\u2019s opponents in the Philippines. More than 2,800 suspected drug dealers and users have been killed since Mr. Duterte took office.<\/p>\n<p>Asked how he would explain the killings to Mr. Obama, he said in a long answer that the Philippines has long ceased to be a colony of the United States and he did not have a master except the Filipino people.<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0\u201cI do not care about him. Who is he?\u201d Mr. Duterte said. \u201cYou must be respectful. Do not just throw questions and statements. Putang Ina, I will swear at you at that forum,\u201d he added, using the Tagalog phrase for \u201cson of a bitch.\u201dMr. Obama then cancelled a meeting with Mr. Duterte in Laos but the two met informally <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1662128663\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Wednesday<\/span><\/span> in a holding room before attending a gala dinner.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte said on Friday he told President Barack Obama during their encounter in Laos that he never cursed him.
