Apple CEO Tim Cook doesn\u2019t have a high opinion of platform-owning social media and advertising companies, most of which is now embroiled in an ongoing controversy about Russian interference in the 2016 US election.<\/p>\n

Cook addressed the congressional hearings, saying that the social media companies have \u201clearned along the way a lot,\u201d and that \u201cwe’ll probably learn more in those hearings as to the particulars.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to say that just as all New York companies aren\u2019t all the same \u2014 and all media companies aren\u2019t the same \u2014 well, all technology companies aren\u2019t the same, either. They have different values, different principles, different business models.\u201d<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t believe the big issue are ads from foreign governments. I believe that\u2019s like .1 percent of the issue,\u201d Cook says. \u201cThe bigger issue is that some of these tools are used to divide people, to manipulate people, to get fake news to people in broad numbers so as to influence their thinking.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
