The festival of Bathukamma the flowers festival starts today. It starts with yengili pulu today and will end with Saddula bathukamma. It is recognised by the Government of Telangana.
It is part of the Telangana lifestyle. The Government gives free sarees to the eligible ladies for this festival. AR Rahman and Gautam Menon have composed and made a bathukamma song this time Jagruthi Kavitha who is also an MLC.
This goes on for 9 days where the ladies dress themselves to the best of their ability and go around the flowers clapping and tapping the music. It is a state festival.
KCR the CM has wished the people a happy bathukamma. later the heaps of flowers are dumped into the lake waters. It is called Dasara Navaratri where Durga is also worshipped in many forms.
Celebrations and poojas are held at Indrakiladri called as kankadurgamma Temple on the banks of river Krishna. The men also meet and hug each other for Dasara and it is called a Alai Bhalai.
Governor Dattatreya is famous for Alai Bhalai.
